Jennifer Lawrence transforms a rare vintage dress into the chicest black maternity dress

Celebrities have wasted no time in spilling the beans holiday party wear inspiration on this week’s red carpet. Sofia Richie’s velvet LBD, for example, is perfect for a black-tie event, while Jennifer Lopez has delivered elevated cozy looks to the masses (read: embellished cardigans and knitted hotpants). Most of the looks have been nice on the nose, but if you long for a more high-fashion look, Jennifer Lawrence just served the perfect opportunity.

The mom-to-be and her budding baby bump hit the red carpet on Thursday, November 14 in a rare, vintage Christian Lacroix confection. She attended the Los Angeles premiere of a new documentary called Bread and roses, which follows the experiences of Afghanistan’s women under Taliban rule.

Draped in all black, Lawrence looked like a movie star in a dress from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2006 ready-to-wear collection. The jewelry was sourced from Shrimpton Couture and styled by Jamie Mizrahi. Her gown had flowing off-the-shoulder tulle sleeves, black satin ribbon at the back, and just a hint of pearl embellishment. The luxe finishes—along with her Manolo Blahnik patent heels—made her runway design feel appropriate for the party season.

On her eyes, Lawrence wore a smoky rose shadow with a glossy lip to match. Her ‘rich girl’ blonde hair, meanwhile, was curled into loose, vintage-inspired waves and tucked behind her ear – making the controversial side part look decidedly chic.

Her styling of the dress couldn’t have been more different from its ’06 runway debut. Lawrence’s sheer glam and simple hairstyle was the opposite of the blunt black bobs and exaggerated eyeliner that Lacroix used for his show.

Let this be proof that you don’t need to wear sequins from head to toe to look totally festive. A glamorous LBD will work just fine.
