Dafne Keen on Trailers Role Revealed

“Deadpool & Wolverine” had plenty of surprise appearances. But one that was definitely not a surprise — at least in the theater — was Dafne Keen returning as X-23, aka Laura. Her role was given away in one of the trailers for the film. And although it may have bothered some fans, it didn’t bother her.

“Honestly, I trust Ryan (Reynolds) and Shawn (Levy)’s creative judgment so much that if they thought it was necessary, they were right,” she explained to TheWrap. “To me, everything they say is the Bible. So I’m glad they did what they did
did.”

In fact, director Shawn Levy warned her in advance that it would happen. According to Keen, the heads up came in “the scariest set of messages” ever, to the point where she convinced herself he was actually calling to deliver bad news.

“Shawn was in Brazil pushing with Hugh and Ryan and he sent me a text saying ‘Call me.’ End of text,” she recalled. “And then I called him and he didn’t answer and then he sent me another text: ‘Call me’. Did not collect. Write me again don’t do pick up. “Call me!” Does not collect. So I freak out. I say, ‘Oh, I’ve been cut from the movie. That’s it. He’s about to give me the worst news of my life.’”

“It turned out he had really bad signals so the message was just retransmitted and he didn’t realize it and he couldn’t get my calls because he had no service,” she continued. “So it was a complete misunderstanding and he had called me to say, ‘Putting you in the trailer. Just wanted to let you know.’ So I knew that, but there was a good 20 minutes of sheer anxiety and panic.”

The trailer meant that Keen could finally stop lying about having a part in the film, even though she enjoyed telling those lies. It was a secret she had been keeping for over a year, which she found out around February 2023.

“It was early on in the filming of ‘Star Wars’ (the series ‘The Acolyte’),” she recalled. “And I had to sit with it for a while year! Yeah, pretty crazy. But very cool.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is now streaming on Disney+.
