Storm approaching to bring weather changes to Arizona this weekend

PHOENIX (AZ family) — Look for sunny but cooler weather today in the valley with an afternoon high of 73 degrees. The wind should be relatively light, with some occasional gusts.

Winds will be strong in other parts of the state today. A wind advisory is in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 PM in North, Northeast and West Central Arizona. Sustained southwesterly winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts topping out near 50 miles per hour.

The strong winds are driven by a storm system that descends through the Great Basin. This storm will split into two pieces of energy, bringing rain and snow showers to northwestern parts of the state Saturday and to the far eastern and southeastern parts of the state Sunday into early Monday. Rainfall amounts must be small.

The valley is not expected to see any rain, but a drop in temperature is expected. Look for morning temperatures in the upper 30s to mid-40s this weekend, with afternoon temperatures near 66 degrees on Saturday and 70 degrees on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to remain cool at the start of next week, but a warming trend will begin on Wednesday and continue into the second half of the week.
