Score predictions for the 2nd round of the Kentucky high school football playoffs

The real fun begins tonight…

After a mostly uneventful first round of the Kentucky high school football postseason, we expect a lot more competitiveness in round two. With a trio of Top 25 showdowns on deck and plenty of notable matchups spread across the state, the chance for upsets is at its best.

The KSR Game of the Week heads to Union, KY for what has a chance to be a thriller from start to finish. No. 10 Ryle Raiders (9-2) host the visitor no. 13 St. Xavier Tigers (7-4) at 7:00 PM EST in the Class 6A playoffs, a rematch of a regular season game where St. Xavier came out on top. For a full preview of the game, click here. We will also be treated with No. 17 Highlands @ No. 22 Woodford County and No. 24 Johnson Central @ No. 19 Covington Catholic this evening.

As we prepare for the second round of the postseason, we predict the outcome of each major game on Friday. By using Massey Ratings – a system created in 1999 by statistician Kenneth Massey that was used to help determine the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) until 2013 – we are able to connect all high school teams across the state to one tool, that will predict the final outcome of any given matchup.

As a quick explanation, Massey Ratings computer ratings are based on historical trends and current year statistics. With that in mind, it will take a few weeks of play before the numbers start to hit their stride. However, you won’t find a more reliable system to use in terms of predicting results during the first few weeks of the regular season.
