Conor McGregor loses another $1 million dollar bet as Mike Tyson is defeated by Jake Paul

Conor McGregor continues to lose money betting on fights as he lost another $1 million on Friday night.

The legendary two-weight UFC champion placed a huge double knockout bet that likely would have netted him eight figures. It started with yesterday’s Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight, where he backed the boxing icon, and moved on to Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

And while it remains to be seen whether Jones will land the stop that would have won him the bet, McGregor is already out of the million. The Irishman watched as Paul dominated an aging Tyson for eight rounds and saw his money run away.

Conor McGregor loses another bet as Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson

Ahead of the first bell in Dallas on Friday night, Conor McGregor made his latest public statement about who he was backing in the fight. He has a long-standing Cold War feud with Paul, which, along with he and Tyson’s close friendship, made his choice an obvious choice.

“My two fight bets this weekend,” McGregor wrote under a photo of him and Tyson from a trade conference this summer in a tweet that has since been deleted. “Tyson KO, Jones stop. $1 million doubled.”

He also complimented Tyson after a bizarre wardrobe malfunction was caught on camera with his bottom clearly visible on the Netflix show. “A solid butt, nipples like cigars, knockout power,” McGregor added. Mike is truly God’s creation! God bless Iron Mike!”

However, the result did not go his way as Jake Paul moved Tyson around for eight rounds and picked up a lopsided and boring decision victory. It brought an end to an intense week of build-up, in which Tyson had even beaten the 27-year-old.

Conor McGregor has already lost millions in recent months

This latest defeat was the latest in a string of poor game losses for McGregor. He claims he’s still up overall for the year after winning a few big bets, but he continues to lose huge amounts in outside picks.

He backed Renan Ferreira to beat Francis Ngannou in their PFL showdown last month, and then at UFC 308 he bet undefeated fighters in Ilia Topuria and Khamzat Chimaev against aging former champions Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker, with both fights ending in stop against his choice.

Now the Irishman faces another difficult loss as Paul picked up an eleventh professional win. However, if an earlier tweet is to be believed, he may still be profiting from his game.

“I won $7.7 million in gambling profits this year,” he wrote. “Spain wins the Euros, $1.1m win. (Nate) Diaz wins (vs. Jorge Masvidal), $1.6 win. Argentina wins copa America, $1m win. Spain, Carlos Alcarez, Argentina triples on game day, 100,000 bet won me $4mil win.

“I lost golden boots 63k in euros, I lost Ferreira last week 500k and 500k tonight. $1.63 million losses, $7.7 million wins. $6m+ I’m up now today as it stands… Rocking nicely!

“Gambling is definitely risky. Play responsibly. I gamble at a profit, which is why I take risks and gamble more often. Play responsibly.”

Conor McGregor has a fascinating gambling philosophy

Despite regularly losing millions in his fight-picking efforts, Conor McGregor insists he still ‘gambles responsibly’. And he figures that betting on a big underdog allows you to take more losses before eventually winning big.

“Here’s the thing, you can take the conventional odds on favorites to win,” he wrote after UFC 308. “And yes, they should win and you get your baby paid and be happy, but to think that bet would have returned me $17m+ outstanding.

“If you look at the odds from a point of view like this, at 500,000 to return 17m out of just two match predictions, well doable, you have 32 times to hit the bet and still be happy! 32 shots on the wheel for that payout. Stuff for afterthought, my game lovers, 34 shots indeed.”
