Vijender Singh challenges Floyd Mayweather to a boxing match in India

After the unprecedented boxing match between the legendary Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul, Indian professional boxer Vijender Singh has challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a similar showdown in India.

“Let’s fight Floyd Mayweather in INDIA,” said Singh, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, in a social media post tagging the undefeated Mayweather.

Vijender Singh’s professional boxing career

Hailing from Bhiwani, Haryana, Singh has previously mentioned that he was inspired by the likes of Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali to take up boxing as a career.

The 39-year-old, who turned professional in 2015, won his first six fights via TKO. In his seventh pro fight, Singh defeated Australian Kerry Hope for the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title on 7 July 2016.

As a professional, Singh has competed in 14 boxing matches in the middleweight category, out of which he has emerged victorious 13 times. His only defeat as a pro came in March 2021 against Artysh Lopsan of Russia in Goa via TKO.

Floyd Mayweather Jr retired undefeated

Mayweather, on the other hand, has a 50-fight unbeaten streak. The 47-year-old, who competed at super featherweight to light middleweight in his career, retired from boxing in 2017.

Mayweather, who has since transitioned to being a boxing promoter, is no stranger to the just-concluded Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul-style exhibition bouts.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

In fact, Mayweather was part of two of the most famous boxing fights of all time: the “Fight of the Century” or the “Fight of Greatness” in 2015 when he took on Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather was also part of arguably the biggest crossover fight in boxing history when he took on MMA legend Conor McGregor.

Mayweather faced McGregor on August 26, 2017 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. Mayweather won by TKO in the 10th round in the fight, which was scheduled for twelve rounds.
