KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The second week of the 2024 TSSAA high school football playoffs is here with the second round of the Division I brackets and quarterfinal rounds of the Division II tournaments.

Here are the best matchups to watch on this week’s Varsity All Access.

POWELL AT SEVIER COUNTY | CLASS 5A SECOND ROUND

Both Powell and Sevier County are popular choices to find themselves in Chattanooga and play for a state title. Since West defeated the Panthers in Week 10 of the regular season, Powell is forced to play Sevier County in the second round as a two-seed.

The Smoky Bears have yet to taste defeat in their 100th season of football. Sevier County enters 11-0 and has outscored opponents 465-82 this year.

Sevier County is seeking its first state title since 1999. The seniors on this year’s Powell team were freshmen when the Panthers won their only state title in 2021.

The winner of this matchup will face the winner of West-Halls in the state quarterfinals.

HALL WEST | CLASS 5A SECOND ROUND

Halls and West played a classic in the regular season. West held on 28-27 after the Red Devils missed a potential game-winning attempt by two points.

After beating No. 2 seed Morristown-West, the Halls are seeking their first trip to the quarterfinals since the 1990s.

West is looking to continue its quest for a third straight state championship. The Rebels have won four games in a row after a 4-3 start to the season.

AUSTIN EAST AT ALCOA | CLASS 3A SECOND ROUND

It’s a regional battle for the right to go to the state quarterfinals when AE battles Alcoa.

The Tornadoes took the regular season meeting between the two 43-7.

The Roadrunners are one of the hottest teams in the state. After hitting Johnson County hard a week ago, Austin-East has won four in a row after an 0-7 start.

The Tornadoes are seeking a 10th straight state championship.

-Grace Christian at CPA (Div II-AA Quarterfinals)
