Ariana Grande, Fallon Recreate ‘Wicked Witch of the East Bro’ Meme

The pair recreated the viral video backstage ahead of the Grandes Show tonight appearance where she spoke Evil and SNL

Ariana Grande’s performance at The Tonight Show got off to a rocky start backstage when she and host Jimmy Fallon found themselves in a heated argument over … the taxonomy of witches in the Oz Expanded Universe.

Ok, not really. The pair did a lip-sync recreation of it instead classic viral video of two people who actually had that argument. The one that includes the glorious line, “Her sister was a witch, wasn’t she? And what was her sister? A princess, the Wicked Witch of the East, bro!”

Grande took the lead in the recreation, catching the annoyance and hitting all the right moves as she got up in Fallon’s face and spat back: “She was wearing a crown and she came down in a bubble, Doug. Grow up bro, grow up. ” Fallon, for his part, had little to do but meekly mime back at the very end, “Get educated.”

Of course, the mock spat was just a prelude to Grande’s interview with Fallon, which primarily centered on the upcoming release of Evil. Grande spoke about learning she had been cast in the film, plays Dorothy in a local theater production of The Wizard of Oz as a child and what she called SNL‘s Lorne Michaels as part of her efforts to get Bowen Yang involved as Pfannee (this prompted Grande to indulge in the time-honored comedy tradition of impersonating Lorne Michaels).

Speaking of SNLGrande also talked about her recent stint hosting the show and her two viral skits from that night. For the “Espresso”/Domingo sketch, Grande talked about her impressively off-key singing, which she said was something she “found in the moment” and pitched to the writers. And as for Antonio, the poor castrato, Grande noted that fans have come out to her Evil premiere where she is asked to sign posters of the character. She then said, “I understand, I appreciate it. He’s still with me. I’m still unpacking Antonio’s emotional weight with my therapist.”
