WFAN has its John Sterling replacement in Dave Sims

The Yankees have landed their man to replace the legendary John Sterling.

Mariners TV announcer Dave Sims was named WFAN’s new play-by-play broadcaster at Yankees games, the station announced Thursday, confirming an earlier report by The Post that a deal was close.

“The radio voice of the Yankees is a magnificent position in baseball history,” said Chris Oliviero, New York Market President, Audacy in a statement. “From Allen and Barber to Rizzuto to Sterling, the names are synonymous with the pinstripes. Dave Sims is a worthy successor to this lineage. We are honored to have Dave join the inimitable Suzyn Waldman in the booth in the Bronx.”

Sources told The Post that the Yankees approve of WFAN’s choice for him to succeed Sterling.

Sims joins longtime Yankees voice Waldman in the booth.

It’s quite a full-circle moment for the 71-year-old Sims, who co-hosted WFAN with Ed Coleman from 1989-93.

“It’s great to be home,” Sims said in a statement via WFAN. “What an honor to be a part of the iconic Yankees franchise. New York is where it all started for me and I can’t wait for opening day and to work with my good friend Suzyn!”

The Post previously reported that Sims and Rickie Ricardo were the two finalists.

Sterling, 86, retired last April after 35 years on the job, but returned to call the Yankees’ postseason run that lasted until the World Series.
