UK weather: Temperatures drop after dismal start to November | UK News

It could be time to dig out the winter woollies, according to the Met Office, as Britain starts to feel cooler this week.

After one Sad start to November with fog, light rain and low cloud this weekend will bring clearer skies and lower temperatures.

Frost is expected in north Wales, north and north-west England and Scotland on Tuesday night, with daily temperatures of between 8C in Scotland and 11C in the south for the next few days.

Northerly breezes could also bring an extra wind chill from Saturday with the possibility of snow in places like the Scottish Highlands.

Met Office meteorologist Zoe Hutin said: “It will be cooler, certainly during the night periods but also during the day.

“That’s thanks to the clearer skies – I’m sure we’re all grateful for a little bit of sunshine today – and also the northerly wind pushing slightly cold air across the British Isles.

“There is a chance to see some snow from the weekend onwards, but nowhere that we wouldn’t expect to see at this time of year.”

She said snow in London was “not entirely out of the question” but there was a “very, very low probability”.

Where has the sun gone?

“I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s unlikely to see snow in the south of England,” Hutin said.

Many weather stations across England and East Wales have seen no sunshine at all for the first eight days of this month.

Forecasters called the gloomy weather “anticyclonic gloom”.

The Met Office has said the phenomenon led to the UK seeing an average of just three hours of sunshine over the seven days leading up to Thursday last week.
