Trump nominates former Georgia congressman Doug Collins to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs

President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday selected a longtime ally to his Cabinet, nominating former congressman Doug Collins to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Collins, 58, represented rural North Georgia for eight years before retiring from Congress after an unsuccessful 2020 campaign for the U.S. Senate.

“We must take care of our brave men and women in uniform,” Trump said in a statement, “and Doug will be a great advocate for our active duty service members, veterans and military families to make sure they have the support they need before.”
