Today, Hoda reveals Kotb’s replacement

It is Today with Savannah Guthrie and…Craig Melvin.

The 45-year-old journalist and longtime Today staples have officially named Hoda Kotb‘s anchor chair replacement for the 7 and 8 a.m. hours of the NBC morning show after Kotb leaves his job in 2025.

“Although you are irreplaceable in our hearts, we are so excited about the news in ours Today family,” Guthrie told Kotb on Nov. 14. “And this is the person sitting next to me, our dear friend and talented, wonderful, hard-working, most worthy of this, Craig Melvin is the new anchor of the Today show.”

Kotb said her last day would be Jan. 10, 2025, as the team cheered Melvin’s appointment, which starts Jan. 13.

“This is one of the most popular decisions that NBC News has ever made,” Guthrie assured Melvin, noting that Today the family “broke into applause” when the announcement was made.

“I’m beyond excited and grateful,” Melvin said. “I had a lot of conversations yesterday with a lot of people who mean a lot to me, and of course I want to thank NBC and the people here who deemed me worthy.”
