Amidst the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, The view co-host Whoopi Goldberg has some words — though her comments weren’t received well by some viewers.

On The viewOn the Tuesday, Nov. 12 episode, the 69-year-old actress compared herself to members of the American working class. As the panel discussed the results of the election — in which Republican candidate Donald Trump was the victor — Sara Haines, who voted for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, said she understood why some working-class people voted for Trump.

“There were millions and millions of people who felt heard (by Trump), and that’s what I’m trying to tap into,” Haines said.

Goldberg wasn’t having it, though — saying she can relate to working-class people, but she didn’t vote for Trump.

“I appreciate that people have a hard time, me too – I work for a living!” said the Oscar winner. “If I had all the money in the world, I wouldn’t be here, okay? So I’m a working man, you know?”

Goldberg — who is one of the only stars in the world to become an EGOT winner — further stated, “My child has to feed his family. My great-grandson has to be fed by his family. I know it’s hard out there.” Whoopi shares 50-year-old daughter Alexandrea Martin with her first husband Alvin Martin. Alexandrea, who often goes out with Alex, is a mother to three children – daughters Amara and Jerzey and son Mason – and grandmother to 10-year-old Charli Rose Burr-Reynaud.

The Sister law star has co-hosted on The view since 2007. Her current salary is unknown, however back in 2016, Black reported that her co-host salary is in the “$5 to $6 million range.” Her net worth is estimated to be about 60 million dollars. Suffice to say, Goldberg’s comments did not go over well with viewers.

“Remind me… who’s in danger?” one person wrote X (formerly Twitter)paraphrasing Goldberg’s famous “you’re in danger, girl” line from Ghost.

Another accused Whoopi of being “out of touch”.

One person believes that claims similar to those made by Goldberg are why Harris’ campaign was unsuccessful.

“This is why the left lost,” they wrote. “They are the party of pretensions now.”

At the time of writing, Goldberg has not directly commented on the backlash.
