How long is Ja Morant out? Hip injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Grizzlies star

After playing in just eight games this season, Ja Morant is back on the injured list.

The Grizzlies’ two-time All-Star was seen on crutches on Friday after injuring his right hip in a game against the Lakers, although it was originally reported as a hamstring injury.

Morant had finally returned to the field after a rough last season in which he served a 25-game league suspension and suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.

The Grizzlies have Morant signed up damage report due to right hip subluxation and pelvic musculature.

The injury occurred during Memphis’ win over Los Angeles on Nov. 6. Morant was destabilized mid-air by a Lakers player, causing him to fall into extreme right hip flexion.

Upon further examination, it was determined that Morant suffered a partial posterior hip subluxation along with multiple grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.

How long is Ja Morant out?

Morant is considered week-to-week right now, meaning he will miss the rematch against the Lakers on Wednesday.

Although Morant did not suffer a dislocation, he still sat out Friday and Sunday’s games, both of which were victories for Memphis. He joins a growing list of other Grizzlies starters on the sideline, including Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart.

It is uncertain when Morant will make a full recovery, but he could return to court sometime this month. Before the injury, he averaged 20.6 points and 9.1 assists per game.
