At least 11 people are hospitalized after an explosion at the workplace in the Clifton neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Officials in Louisville say 11 employees at Givaudan Sense Color in Clifton have been hospitalized after an explosion at the workplace. Two of them were saved.

The explosion was reported around 3pm on November 12th at 1901 Payne Street. Givaudan Sense Color is known as the former DDW plant.

Louisville Metro Emergency Services says the initial shelter-in-place order issued to those within a one-mile radius has been lifted. However, those within a two-block radius are being evacuated.

Please stay out of the area while Louisville Fire works on the scene.

In an update, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said the cause of the explosion is unknown. Greenberg said everyone who worked at the facility and those around it has been accounted for.

Members of the Givaudan team who were inside said everything was operating as normal before the explosion.

Air surveillance in the area is clear at this time and at this time. Greenberg is asking the public to continue to use caution and avoid the area. No further evacuations are planned.

Louisville officials are working to get more details from the company about what kind of chemicals were involved.
