I-65 South lanes at University Blvd reopen after 2 car, 3 dump truck accident

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Traffic was at a standstill for miles this morning on Interstate 65 in Louisville.

All lanes and shoulders are open again on I-65 South near University Boulevard and Arthur Street, which is in the Mile Marker 133 area.

Louisville Metro Police officers were called there and found at least five vehicles involved in a crash shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Witnesses told officers that two cars were initially involved in a collision, and both of those drivers left the scene. They said one of them ran and the other was picked up by another vehicle that continued southbound. It is not known if they were injured in the accident.

Three commercial dump trucks traveling on I-65 South reportedly did not have time to react to the initial collision, which caused a chain reaction. Louisville Fire & Rescue safely got a seriously injured truck driver out and he was taken to UofL Hospital for surgery. The other truck drivers were not seriously injured and were checked out by EMS.

A lot of diesel also had to be cleaned up due to the saddle tanks breaking.

LMPD’s Fourth Division is still investigating this crash.
