What happened to Kyle Singler?

Singles sent an alarming 90 second reel to his verified Instagram account on Tuesday. It is currently the only post in the account’s feed.

In the video, Singler is shirtless and standing in front of a light in a position where his facial features are indistinguishable.

After saying he had to make an announcement, Singler said the following:

I feel like my voice is being silenced and every day is being thrown my way.

My society, f—ed. I have been mistreated and abused. Neglected, made a mental example and I fear for my life. Every day. And people in my community make me look like I’m going to be someone who’s going to be a problem and make things difficult for people when I’m just trying to be helpful

And I feel like I have a certain way about myself and strength and purpose that isn’t appreciated or treated properly.

The video cuts out as Singler completes his last sentence.

After a decorated career at Duke, Singler was selected by the Pistons with the 33rd pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. During the NBA lockout, Singler spent his first professional season in Spain before joining Detroit in 2012. He spent six seasons in the NBA with the Pistons and Thunder before returning to Spain in 2018.

He retired from basketball in 2019, with reference to personal matters.
