Costco forced to recall 80,000 pounds of butter for the stupidest possible reason

It’s pure stupidity!

Costco was forced to recall nearly 80,000 pounds of butter because the label failed to mention that the kitchen product contains milk — and many social media users are rolling their eyes at the dairy dilemma.

The FDA issued an initial recall for 79,200 pounds of Kirkland Signature butter due to the undeclared allergen in October. Packages for both salted and unsalted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter list cream as an ingredient, but do not include an allergy warning that the butter “Contains milk.”

The bizarre recall has left many internet users scratching their heads. The most common comment: “It’s butter.”

“80,000 pounds of Costco butter was just recalled because the label doesn’t say it contains milk. It’s butter. News articles telling people how to return or safely dispose of the butter. It’s butter,” one person was dead panned.

A social media user joked“Could you please dispose of it safely at my place? I have a lot of holiday baking to do.”

“Then they will remember beef that may contain cow,” another called in.

Another person joked: “If you need the government to tell you that butter is a dairy product, then … well, I can’t help you God, I loathe the government.”

“To be called ‘butter’ it has to contain milk or milk derivatives. Talk about useless government,” another shameless X user piled on.

While butter, which is made by churning milk, is low in lactose, people who are allergic to milk are likely to have a bad reaction to it. The CDC notes in the recall that milk is one of the main foods that “account for the most serious allergic reactions in the United States.”

Decorated social media users slammed the so-called problem and called out Costco for the trash.

“Instead of wasting 80,000 pounds of butter, why don’t they print stickers that say ‘Contains milk’ and save perfect food? So wasteful,” said one person.

The FDA did not say whether there have been any illnesses or side effects from the product.
