‘SNL’ Weekend Update mocks Democrats after Donald Trump’s win

Saturday Night Live (SNL) took aim at the Democratic Party in his Weekend Update, following Donald Trump’s election victory on Tuesday.

In a decisive political comeback, Trump swept all swing states, winning both the popular vote and the White House, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, while his party retook the Senate and looks set to win the House of Representatives.

SNL hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che took aim at Democrats and their failure to win despite Trump’s many setbacks on the campaign trail.

“On Tuesday we learned that Democrats don’t actually know how to rig an election,” Jost opened, referring to Trump’s ongoing statements that the 2020 election was rigged.

“It’s like we’re living in a computer simulation and whoever controls Trump has a cheat code. He’s invincible. He’s like a character in Grand Theft Auto who throws a prostitute out of a car and drives straight to the White House. But don’t worry, if I know the Democrats, they’ll take a long look in the mirror, learn from their mistakes, and then run (Joe) Biden again in 2028.”

Jost went on to joke about Biden’s old age and his much-criticized performance in his June debate against Trump, ending his re-election bid. “President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office next week, with Biden finally finishing a sentence he started in the debate,” Jost said.

Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the presidential transition.

An invitation from a sitting president to the president-elect is usually during a presidential transition. But in 2020, Trump, then the sitting president, did not recognize Biden’s election victory and has not conceded because he said the election was stolen through widespread fraud. Biden therefore did not receive an invitation to the White House before his inauguration.

Che, delivering the newscast while drinking liquor in mourning, joked that he allowed his white liberal colleagues to give him hope for a Harris victory.

“How did I convince you that rural Pennsylvania would elect the Jamaican Indian lady?” he said. “Obviously I’ve spent too much time with you white liberals and your silly optimism. It wasn’t even close. At one point Trump was so far ahead they put Bronny in.”

Jost joked that Democrats, like Che, might have to self-medicate to cushion the loss.

“Before the election, Trump said he would let RFK Jr. ‘go crazy on meds,’ which is what the Democrats have been doing all week,” Jost said, showing a picture of a pill bottle of Xanax, an anxiety medication.
