'BCCI ke saath saath...': Former Pakistan cricketer makes surprising revelation about Champions Trophy

NEW DELHI: As excitement over the India-Pakistan tussle to host the Champions Trophy continues, there were reports on Friday that the BCCI had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board that it will not send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament and wanted to play his matches in Dubai, though PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi denied receiving any formal communication from the BCCI.
As per standard practice, the BCCI has to obtain approval from the Indian government before taking a call on the team’s tour to Pakistan.
In the midst of this match, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali made a surprising revelation that some other cricket boards may also refuse to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Saturday, Basit Ali said, “BCCI is yet to say no. BCCI will say no on the 11th and I will see what other cricket boards would say no. I am saying this because IPL has a huge impact. All cricket boards in the world earn big money from IPL Cricket boards will be more clear on 11.
Basit Ali praised PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi for holding a fine press conference and stated that all the talks in Pakistan and in India have stalled, now it’s all about paperwork.
Basit Ali said, “What BCCI will say on paper, how PCB reacts and how ICC will go further. Everything will be ready the day after tomorrow (Monday). But Pakistan will not lose here, money will not win here, it will be cricket that will suffer, because those who love cricket will talk about the game, those who love money will talk about other things. Let’s see, it’s a part of life, everyday is not a Sunday. The world will not remain the same. I just want to see which boards will favor Pakistan and which boards will favor BCCI because of the pressure of IPL.”

The PCB had agreed on a hybrid model while hosting the 2023 Asia Cup, with India playing all their matches in Sri Lanka. Pakistan had eventually agreed to play India in Ahmedabad during the ODI World Cup.
If things don’t change on the BCCI front, the PCB will have to take the matter to the ICC, where sitting BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who will take over as ICC president on December 1, will have to take a decision on the issue. As a matter of policy, the ICC does not interfere in the diplomatic policies of any country.

If India qualify for the Champions Trophy Knockouts, they will be played at a neutral venue

Sources said that the BCCI wants the decision on this issue to be taken before Shah takes charge as the ICC chairman.
If the PCB eventually agrees to the hybrid model, it will be interesting to see which venue the ICC proposes for the final.
The PCB had reportedly floated the idea of the Indian team setting up a base in Chandigarh and traveling to Lahore only on match days. However, that idea is considered a logistical nightmare.
