Romulus’ Sets Hulu Streaming Date Before Thanksgiving

The second highest earnings Alien movies in box office history, Alien: Romulus, will hit Hulu on November 21st. That’s a 98-day theatrical window, which is pretty robust and on par with Disney since returning to Windows after former CEO Bob Chapek. Pic’s digital release was on October 15th. The title will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 3rd.

Fede Alvarez directed Alien Romulus grossed $105.3 million at the domestic box office and $350.8 million worldwide. It’s behind Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, Prometheus, which earned $126.4 million domestically, $403.3 million worldwide.

Alien Romulus was set 20 years after the original Alien film (1979) and follows a group of young colonizers who come face to face with the worst form of life as they scour the depths of an abandoned space station.

Alvarez told us on Crew Call about his inspirations for Alien sequel: “I hope people connect with it because it’s such a Third World story. That’s where I’m from. If you’re born in the Third World, that’s your reality for better or worse, you will always do good when you grow up.”

“So the narrative of young people who are born in the place that they feel is the wrong place, where things feel like they’re collapsing around them and they just want to get out of there, they should look at their parents and see, ‘I don’t want to end up like them.’ It is a reality in the third world.”

Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu star. Alvarez co-wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Scott produced with Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.
