Top Harris Campaign Official David Plouffe Nukes X Account After Biden Swipe

Senior Harris campaign adviser David Plouffe deleted his X account Wednesday night amid backlash over a post that appeared to rebuke President Joe Biden as Democrats begin to blame the parties allegedly responsible for their 2024 election loss.

Plouffe, who previously served as Barack Obama’s campaign manager, took to social media Wednesday to thank his campaign staff for their work on Kamala Harris’ White House bid. However, the message ended with him writing “We dug out of a deep hole, but not enough. A devastating loss.”

While Plouffe’s remark was unspecific, his comment coincided with finger-pointing among Democrats who cited the president’s first decision to run for re-election and his reported reluctance to bow out of the race as the basis for Harris’ resounding defeat.

As an anonymous Harris aide told Politico on Election Day, “We ran the best campaign we could given that Joe Biden was president. Joe Biden is the particular reason Kamala Harris and the Democrats lost tonight.”

Andrew Yang, who ran against Biden in 2020 for the Democratic nomination and backed Harris’ 2024 bid, also entered the Democratic race.

“The biggest burden for this loss rests on President Biden,” he said. “If he had stepped down in January instead of July, we could be in a very different place.”

Other critics argued that Biden’s poor approval rating and untimely lapses, given his closeness to Harris, limited her chances of winning. In the latter part of her campaign, Harris’ team had reportedly wanted to distance herself from the president who tried to campaign on her behalf.

A source in Biden’s circle Plouffe slammed Fox News as a “sanctimonious a–“, calling his tweet “unproductive” before adding “Joe Biden is the President of the United States and won without (Plouffe). He successfully beat Donald Trump – something (Plouffe) never did.”
