Mike Tyson admits he ‘smoked weed and did mushrooms’ before accepting Jake Paul fight

Before launching his comeback to the ring, Mike Tyson has admitted that he spent his time on extracurricular activities.

The legendary heavyweight champion will face Jake Paul on November 15th at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. They were due to compete on July 20, but the bout had to be postponed when Tyson suffered a stomach ulcer that left him fearing for his life.

However, he has now recovered and is back in boxing training, with the fight just over a week away. And in a new Netflix documentary series leading up to the fight, the former champion has opened up about how the fight came about.

Jake Paul claims ayahuasca experience led to Mike Tyson fight

During the second episode of Netflix’s Countdown show for Paul vs. Tyson, the YouTuber-turned-boxer discussed how an Ayahuasca ceremony made him envision the fight. Until then it had always been a wildly unlikely prospect, although there is footage of Paul suggesting the fight in April 2021.

“About two and a half years ago now, I went to Costa Rica for my first Ayahuasca ceremony,” Paul told the cameras as he meditated in the garden of his opulent Puerto Rican mansion. “I wanted to uncover things about myself.

“One of the craziest things was the vision I had of me and Mike Tyson fighting like it had already happened or something in the future or was going to happen, that was the feeling that gave me.

“And it showed me the millions of kids watching through their TVs and their devices, and it showed the butterfly effect of what it’s creating for the sport of boxing.”

The fight wasn’t necessarily as clear cut for Tyson. The 58-year-old had been focusing on his various businesses, including a marijuana company and a successful podcast, after he last competed in a 2020 exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

But Paul says that when he approached him about the opportunity, it was an instant hit. “So the next day I get in touch with Mike,” Paul added during his segment.

“He’s like, ‘Yeah, Jake.’ I love this idea. That’s awesome, man! That sounds good. We have to make it happen.’ And that’s the power of opening yourself up to the energy of the universe, but also acting on those things.”

However, Tyson’s telling of the story is a little different. He claims he was simply called with an offer while he was on drugs. During the opening part of the series, he said: “I think Jake is enjoying his position in life right now.

“Good for him, I was doing my job, just enjoying life. I was smoking a lot of weed and doing a lot of mushrooms, just enjoying life, doing what I wanted. I was building companies and stuff, then I saw this little idiot.

“Even though he’s a little whiz, he ignited the fire in me. I’m sure he’s scared, if he’s not scared he’ll be in for a big surprise.”
