New details released about UTSA student found dead in campus parking garage

Authorities on Wednesday discovered a University of Texas San Antonio doctoral student dead in a campus garage in what is believed to be a suicide.

Campus officials found the student in the Bauerle Road Garage, located in the Katz Alumni Center on campus. Adjacent to the main building and the John Peace Library, the garage provides easy access to the east side and central core of the campus.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news of the death of a student at the Bauerle Road Garage this morning. Information is still being gathered. We will provide updates to the campus community when available,” UTSA wrote via its Facebook page.

UTSA President Taylor Eigmy also said in a message:

“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to share that we have lost a member of our PhD student body, likely to suicide. I know that an unexpected loss like this can feel overwhelming and can affect you differently. However, you need to know that you are not alone and support is available. I know that our entire community feels a sense of confusion and loss, especially those who knew the student best. Be resources available to you 24/7.”
