Kamala Harris addresses the nation and admits to Donald Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her concession speech to the American people at Howard University in Washington, DC on Wednesday afternoon. Her speech came hours after she called on President-elect Donald Trump to concede earlier today.

The delayed timing echoes the 2016 admission of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who also waited until the next day to deliver her admission.

Harris walked out to the podium wearing a black pantsuit as the crowd cheered as Beyonce’s “Freedom” played in the background.

“My heart is full today, full of gratitude,” Harris opened. Harris thanked President Biden, her family and the Walz family before thanking his supporters and volunteers. “I’m so proud of the race we ran and the way we ran it.”

“Now I know people are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now, I understand that. But we have to accept the outcome of this election.” Harris then mentioned that he called President-elect Trump to concede the race, and the audience booed audibly.

Harris also said she will accept the outcome of the election and will certify the results on January 6, but increased loyalty must first and foremost be to the constitution.

“While I concede this election, I do not concede the struggle that fueled this campaign: the struggle for freedom, for opportunity, for justice, for the dignity of all people.”

Harris reiterated her stances on guns and abortion as part of the fight she will continue to maintain: “We will continue to fight this fight at the ballot box, in the courtroom, in the public square.”

Harris also comforted her younger supporters, saying “to the young people watching, it’s okay to feel sad and disappointed. But please know that it’s going to be okay.”

“This is not a time to throw up your hands, but to roll up your sleeves,” Harris added.
