Famous actress describes the pain of dealing with MS

Christina Applegate, one of the stars of the hit comedy “Married … With Children” and also of the “Anchorman” movies, has offered new insight into what it’s like to deal with multiple sclerosis.

“I was lying in bed screaming,” Applegate, 52, said below her her MesSy podcastwith co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Jamie and I have different — everyone has different ways of showing it. I was laying in bed screaming. Like the sharp pain, the pain, the squeezing.”

Applegate described her symptoms while talking to Sigler and Rory Kandel, a California bakery owner. Both Sigler and Kandel also have MS.

“I can’t even pick up my phone sometimes because now it’s raised in my hands, so I’ll try to get my phone or get my remote to turn on the TV, or sometimes I can’t even hold them. I can’t open bottles now,” said Applegate, The New York Post writes.

Applegate was diagnosed with MS in 2021 while filming the final season of the Netflix series “Dead to Me.” She believes she may have had the disease for years before being diagnosed.

The The Mayo Clinic website says MS causes the breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. It can cause numbness, weakness, difficulty walking, vision changes and other symptoms. It has no cure, but there are treatments that can help manage symptoms and speed recovery after an attack.

Applegate says she sometimes wants to stay in bed the whole time, depending on her pain level. She said the floor sometimes feels like “lava” when she tries to get out of bed.

“But it’s like it’s so freaking painful and so hard and so awkward,” she said.

Applegate rose to fame while portraying Kelly Bundy from 1987 to 1997 on “Married … with Children.” She has appeared in several television series and films, with one of her biggest roles being Veronica Corningstone opposite Will Ferrell in the 2004 film “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”. She also starred in its sequel, “Anchorman 2 : The Legend Continues”.
