I scooped £250,000 on the postcode lottery – triple what my neighbors won because of a smart decision

A LUCKY mum has revealed how her smart decision netted her a huge £250,000 win in the Postcode Lottery.

Diane Daughtrey of Barnham, West Sussexwas in disbelief when someone knocked on her door and handed her a check for hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The mum-of-two found herself netting almost a quarter of a million pounds thanks to her smart decision.

She was one of nine neighbors with the same zip code who won a nice sum this week.

Millionaire Street Prize of £1m was given to players with the postcode PO22 0DQ.

The 43-year-old Network Rail worker, who spends his nights at Barnham station, couldn’t believe his luck when the £249,999 check arrived on his doorstep.

But this wasn’t her first taste of success – and it’s all thanks to her decision to double her winnings after a smaller prize five years ago.

Diane said: “I’m devastated and a bit overwhelmed. It’s really taken me by surprise.

“I didn’t expect to win this amount – I was quite happy to win £1,000 as I did five years ago.”

Five years ago Diane was over the moon with her £1,000 win.

She even shared some of it with her children, but the happiness didn’t end there. In a decision that is now paying off, she chose to invest in two more tickets.

Diane added: “I was so happy when I won £1,000 that I gave some of it to my children.

“And after that I decided to get two more tickets. I think it paid off in spades!”

Her clever move to boost her chances has netted her a life-changing £250,000 – three times the amount her neighbors won.

However, the tension was not only about the money.

The victory meant that she could finally think about her future, arrange her home and pamper her family.

She said: “The big thing is that I can look after the house and I can give a little to my children.

“I’ve also been wanting to treat myself for a change. I’m going to Singapore in March so some of that will go towards spending money on that.”

Just a few hours after receiving her check, she was back on duty at the train station.

The mother-of-two, who also juggles looking after her children, said: “I’ll be thinking about it all night long, that’s for sure.”

As for the rest of Barnham Street, they are also still celebrating as it has been a big win for the postcode overall.

But for Diane, it’s a moment she’ll never forget.

And as she heads to Singapore, the memory of that life-changing check will no doubt stay with her for a long time.

Diane is not the only lucky neighbor on Barnham Street.

Just days before Christmas, Julie won £166,666 with the People’s Postcode Lottery.

But thanks to a key decision by Julie, she was able to double her winnings, while her neighbors received £83,333 – the price of each winning ticket.

She must have felt extra lucky when Julie decided to buy two lottery tickets and won twice.

Julie told The People’s Postcode Lottery officials: “It’s unbelievable, I still can’t quite believe it.”

The mother explained how the unexpected has opened doors for their family, especially her daughter Torie, who runs a wool-based clothing business called Feral Fibres.

“I’m just so happy because I know things are going to change for Torie now too,” she said.
