OpenAI is working on repairing ChatGPT, other applications after crashes

OpenAI is working to fix an issue that caused major outages in its applications, including ChatGPT.

A statement from the artificial intelligence (AI) company, which was published on social media platform X just after 4 p.m. ET Thursday, noted that “most” of ChatGPT, the API, and Sora were down.

An error status page shows OpenAI identified an issue with high error rates on ChatGPT, the API, and Sora at 14 and began to investigate it.

OpenAI said the problem was caused by an upstream provider, which is a company that connects a local ISP’s network to the Internet.

Two further updates at 15.00 and at 4pm noted that OpenAI “continued to work on a fix for (the issue)”.

From By 18:30, ChatGPT and the APIs were partially restored and Sora was fully operational.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the company wrote. “We have identified the problem and have started recovery. We hope to be back as soon as possible.”

Users around the world took to X to comment on the outages, with some noting that the outage hampered their ability to do research and complete school or work assignments.

An OpenAI spokesperson referred FOX Business to the statement on Thursday and declined to comment further on the outages.
