Wallabies escape holiday events in Simpsonville

SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Officials in Simpsonville are searching for one of two wallabies that escaped their enclosure Thursday.

City officials said the wallabies were at the Nights of Lights petting zoo in Heritage Park. Nights of Lights is a continuous Christmas event with rides and ice skating, in addition to a petting zoo.

A city spokesman said one wallaby has been captured, but the search continues for the other. Residents in the area have reported sightings.

The Simpsonville Police Department is assisting in the search.

Wallabies are marsupials in the same taxonomic family as kangaroos.

Nights of Lights said they will be open for regular hours Thursday night.
