Suspected kidnapping in Pueblo prompts 40-mile police chase

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A suspected kidnapping in Pueblo led to a 25-mile police chase that ended just outside the El Paso County Jail.

According to a Pueblo Police Department spokesman, officers were called to a neighborhood on the city’s east side just before 4 a.m. Thursday on reports of a kidnapping. Family members at the scene told police a man had driven off with his ex-girlfriend and wouldn’t let her out of the car.

Police located the suspect and victim approximately 15 minutes later, still in the area of 2200 East 12th Street. The suspect sped off when he saw the officers, with the victim still in the car.

More officers were called, and after a brief search, police found the suspect vehicle a second time, leading to a pursuit on I-25 heading north toward Colorado Springs. El Paso County deputies and the State Patrol joined the chase after the suspect crossed county lines, the victim still in tow.

The suspect eventually left in Fountain and began driving toward the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. The chase ended on Highway 85 less than half a mile from the prison.

The suspect was quickly arrested and now faces charges of kidnapping, domestic violence, felony evading, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, on top of three unrelated warrants already out for his arrest. He was identified by the police department as 33-year-old Stevie Flores.

The victim was unharmed.
