Wuthering Waves comes out on PS5 at the perfect moment

Wuthering Waves may look and sound a lot like Genshin Impact, but it’s stronger than the long-time HoYoverse favorite in a number of areas. The character action combat is vastly superior in our opinion – and the release has a pretty cool system where you absorb animals from around the world and can integrate their abilities into your movements.

The title is coming to PS5 on January 2nd along with its absolutely massive v2.0 update. And it feels like the perfect time to start playing: you’ll be able to jump straight to the new story and Italian-inspired location of Rinascita if you want, and there’ll be tons of onboarding to help you and your characters up to speed.

More importantly, developer Kuro Games is giving away a ton of free moves just for logging in, and you can earn more by completing events and working your way through the story.

The new environment, which consists of a total of eight biomes, looks brilliant: the bulk of it takes place during Carnevale, while tensions rise between warring factions in the background. Open world traversal is completely transformed here, allowing you to fly and ride boats. You can even float up waterfalls, making movement fast and satisfying.

If you haven’t already played on mobile, there will be quite a lot to catch up on even if you jump straight to the v2.0 story, but we reckon you’ll have a good time. Wuthering Waves’ production values are off the charts, and while it relies a little too much on proper names like all these Chinese games, it’s worth adding to your daily rotation of titles to play.
