Christmas Eve power outages in LA County mostly resolved – Whittier Daily News

Several neighborhoods in Downey, Norwalk and other LA County cities experienced power outages and water pressure issues on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, following an equipment failure Tuesday afternoon at an Edison substation in Southern California. By about 10:30 p.m., Southern California Edison’s website said most of the outages had been resolved, with only 375 customers without power in LA County.

Water repair crews had responded to investigate when power was lost Tuesday afternoon, the Downey Police Department said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. From 18, water supply was fully restored in the city, the city reported.

Police said the department had been inundated with calls regarding power problems. Residents do not need to report power and water problems to the police.

Businesses on Firestone Boulevard, including the Stonewood Center, had lost power, according to a Southern California News Group reporter. Some residents also experienced a data outage in the area.

Police and the Department of Public Works directed traffic at the intersection, where the light is not working.

The Metro C train line was temporarily down between Norwalk and Willowbrook/Rosa Parks due to the power outage. Buses were brought in to move passengers instead, the transit agency said. Normal service resumed at 16.53

About 40,000 customers were without power, SCE said around 1 p.m. 21. But the company’s website later put the number without power at just a few hundred.

“We know any outage is a real hardship,” utility company spokesman Jeff Monford said before the outages were resolved, “and SCE crews are working to restore power as quickly as they can with safety in mind as the top priority. “
