Kelly Clarkson’s decade-old single finally reaches the top 10

Kelly Clarkson has found many spaces to occupy in pop culture, and of course especially within the music industry. She started out as a reality TV star and then a proven pop hitmaker. More recently, she has become an Emmy-winning daytime television host, and she has also found great success as one of the many performers who look forward to Christmas to keep the power going.

The American Idol champion first delved into the Christmas music space more than ten years ago with his album Wrapped in red. This title has become a modern classic when it comes to seasonal tunes, and fans return to the collection every year. One track in particular remains a favourite, and as of this week has become a somewhat surprising smash for the singer.

“Underath The Tree” climbs back into the main chart of the most consumed songs in the UK this week. Clarkson’s tune jingles from no. 12 to no. 10, entering the top 10 for the first time, years after it was first released.

Clarkson achieves her tenth UK top 10 smash milestone as “Underath The Tree” rises. It’s been nearly a decade since she last sent a tune to the competitive region, as “Heartbeat Song” remains her most recent win … before her holiday episode, that is. The single debuted and peaked at no. 7 back in 2015.

“Underath The Tree” debuted on the UK Singles Chart in 2013 when it was first released. The tune hit the top 40 two weeks after it arrived, and it’s had multiple comebacks every holiday since then.

The single reached a new peak of no. 12 in January 2023, as that season was coming to an end. “Underath The Tree” matched that showing last week, and now it’s reset its own record and marched even higher.

As “Underath The Tree” improves on its all-time status, Clarkson is storming up the UK charts as another holiday favorite is about to join in on the fun. “Santa Can’t You Hear Me”, her collaboration with Ariana Grande, reappears towards the bottom of the chart at no. 98. That tune has climbed as high as no. 23 in the past, and it doesn’t seem likely to make a play for that position, as the competition seems too stiff at the moment — especially when it comes to Grande, if Evil the soundtrack album still works spectacularly well.
