Snow and a wintry mix is moving into the region looking forward to Monday

4 Warn the weatherWINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Has been issued for most of southeast Michigan from 12:00 Monday to 1:00 a.m. Tuesday (10:00 p.m. Monday in our M-59 Corridor Counties) for a wintry mix of precipitation and accumulating snow depending on where you are in the region . This will affect holiday travel as we work for a large part of our Monday.

MONDAY: Cloudy sky; wintry mix and snow developing late in the morning and into the afternoon. Snow accumulation possible along with sleet and some freezing rain in other areas as temperatures warm. Areas closer to the state line may see a brief transition to rain before switching back to winter weather as temperatures drop. Height: 35; temperatures that remain close to freezing in our northern communities. Winds: South 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 20 MPH.

MONDAY EVENING: Wintry mix and snow ending near or shortly after midnight. Low: 32.

TUESDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE): Mostly cloudy skies. Height: 37.

TUESDAY EVENING: Mostly cloudy skies. Low: 29.

WEDNESDAY (CHRISTMAS DAY): Mostly cloudy skies. Height: 38.

As we start the holiday week we are looking at a bit of a wintry mess moving into the region and depending on where you are it will depend on what you see, here is the breakdown of what you can see depending on where you live :

ALONG AND NORTH OF M-59: These areas should remain primarily snow this evening, with the exception of some sleet/mixing possible near M-59 this afternoon/evening. Those areas could see 2 to 4 inches of snow with areas up near Saginaw and into the Thumb potentially seeing 3 to 5 inches of snow.

ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE M-59 TO I-696/I-94 CORRIDOR: These areas may begin as snow before changing to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and potentially some freezing rain. Areas from M-59 to I-696 could see 1 to 2 inches of snow, then change to some sleet and freezing rain, with sleet and ice accumulations in some areas.

SOUTH OF THE I-94 CORRIDOR: These areas will start as snow and then quickly transition to a wintry mix, after which areas of Eastern Wayne County and parts of Monroe County could see a transition to rain for a period before switching back to the wintry mix and then snow as this system moves out of the region. An inch or less of snow is expected with a slight accumulation of sleet and freezing rain possible.

The wintry mix and snow will wind down here or after midnight tonight and we’ll keep the cloud cover into the forecast overnight tonight. Lows overnight, staying around freezing and early Tuesday morning.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the cloud cover will hold firm as we head through the day and the warming trend will begin to move into the region. High temperatures are headed for the upper 30s Tuesday afternoon.

Cloud cover will hold through Christmas Day Wednesday and into Thursday as temperatures will continue to warm. High temperatures will remain in the upper 30s on Wednesday, heading into the lower 40s as we reach Thursday.

Our next chance for rain moves into the region late Friday night and looks ahead to the upcoming weekend thanks to another area of low pressure and a frontal boundary on the way. But the warming continues, with highs heading into the lower 40s on Friday, then the upper 40s for Saturday and Sunday with showers likely both days.
