Jeff Bezos denies reports that he, Lauren Sánchez will marry this Christmas

Jeff Bezos sets the record straight.

The founder of Amazon, 60, rejected rumors that he will marry Lauren Sánchez in a lavish ceremony close to Christmas in a posts on social media shared on Sunday 22 Dec.

Bezos responded to a post about X (formerly known as Twitter) that contained information found in a recent New York Post article, which quoted a report from Daily Mailwho claimed he and his fiancee, 55, were set to have a $600 million wedding in Aspen, Colorado on Saturday, December 28.

As CEO of Pershing Square Bill Ackman resubmitted the Post article with the caption: “This is not credible. Unless you’re buying a house for each of your guests, you can’t spend that much money,” Bezos replied, “Furthermore, this whole thing is completely bogus – none of this is happening.”

The businessman continued: “The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even truer today than it has ever been.”

Bezos added: “Now lies can reach the whole world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible.”

Bezos then called out publications that posted the fake news about his marriage, writing, “It will be interesting to see if all the outlets that are ‘covering’ and re-reporting on this issue, a correction as it comes and goes and not happening.”

PEOPLE confirmed that Bezos and Sánchez were dating in January 2019, and the couple became engaged in May 2023.

A source previously told PEOPLE that they were “on cloud nine — so happy and madly in love” following their engagement news.

“Her engagement ring is beyond amazing. And huge! She keeps playing with it and looking at it,” the insider added. “You can see she loves it.”

Bezos shares four children – three sons and a daughter – with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Sánchez shares son Nikko with ex Tony Gonzalez and children Evan and Ella with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell.

During a November performance at Today show, Sánchez talked about gathering inspiration for her upcoming wedding.

“I have to say, I have a Pinterest,” she said. “I’m like every other bride, so I have a Pinterest board.”
