The fight for no. 1 with the Raiders is underway

game

The New York Giants and their fans are forced to embrace the duality of life in the NFL’s basement.

It’s hard to see what happened to the current Giants on Sunday afternoon when they fell to the Falcons in Atlanta, snapping the longest losing streak in franchise history in a 34-7 rout at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It may also be the best for the future.

Because their 10th straight loss could also be what sets up the Giants to claim the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. What that means for the regime led by coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen remains to be seen, with owners John Mara and Steve Tisch only knowing the answer to that.

The Giants are currently expected to hold no. 1 pick, according to Tankathon.comright in front Las Vegas Raiderswhich has a 2-12 record but would win the tiebreaker based on strength of schedule (SOS).

Here’s the scenario now in play: The Raiders are favorites to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game that starts at 4:25 p.m., and if they win, Antonio Pierce’s team would fall from the top spot.

If the Giants lose their last three games, they are guaranteed to win no worse than No. 2 in the draft next April.

If the Giants win out over the next two weeks, there’s a group of five three-win teams lurking behind them (New England, Jacksonville, Carolina, Tennessee and Cleveland) that could ultimately push them as low as No. 7 depending on tiebreaker situations.

The Giants and Raiders are believed to be in the hunt for a quarterback with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward currently considered the top two in the 2025 class. Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and head coach at Colorado, came out last week and insisted on. that it is false that he does not want his son to play for the Giants, or any team other than the Raiders.

The Giants have already done extensive homework on Shedeur Sanders, with Schoen and his top staff spending time on campus in Boulder at a recent Buffaloes’ practice. Not only is Shedeur potentially a top pick, but cornerback/wide receiver and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter could be the top non-quarterback prospect in the draft.

Schoen has also scouted Ward personally this season. The pre-draft evaluation process will come into high gear after the college and NFL seasons.
