Target recall: 45,000 Christmas tree light controllers sold at Walmart & Target recalled, shoppers instructed to ‘immediately stop use’

Christmas tree topper company Mr. Christmas recalling 44,600 wireless decorative tree light controllers sold at retailers such as Walmart and Goal due to fire hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to the CPSCthe wireless receivers that are part of the tree light controls can “overheat, posing a fire hazard.”

The recalled model numbers displayed on the wireless receivers include:

  1. 39611
  2. 39612
  3. 39630

No injuries have yet been reported, but there were 10 incidents where the receivers overheated and in one case caused a fire.

The controllers were sold between July and November at Walmart, Target and Cracker Barrel locations nationwide and online, ranging in price from $25 to $40.

The controllers, sold at Walmart and Cracker Barrel, look like a green, red and white peppermint confection with a candy cane on/off handle labeled “Christmas Light Controller.”

The controller, sold at Target, looks like a square box with an on/off button with green, red and white balls. This controller is marked with the words “Tree Lighting Switch”.

“Consumers should immediately stop using this product and return it to their place of purchase to receive a full refund,” Mr. Christmas stated in a recall notice.
