Some Greater Toronto Area (GTA) residents are facing a snowy commute this morning.

A winter weather travel advisory for Toronto has ended, but remains in effect for some areas west of the city, including Burlington, Hamilton and Niagara.

“A band of lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will continue to affect the area this morning. Poor visibility, particularly for areas near Lake Ontario, may affect the morning commute,” Environment Canada said in its advisory for the areas.

The agency warned that motorists should expect “hazardous winter driving conditions” and should adjust travel plans accordingly.

While the advisory has ended for Toronto, the city is still expected to see wintry weather on Friday, including freezing winds and additional snow.

After some light snowfall overnight in the city, Toronto could still see some heavy showers change to periods of snow today, with local amounts close to 2 cm near Lake Ontario.

In terms of temperature, the city will see a high of just -2 C, but it will feel closer to -9 with the wind chill.

The city is set to see a low of -10 C overnight, Feels like -16 with wind chill.

The cool weather continues into the weekend.

Saturday, which marks the first official day of winter, will see a high of -7, which feels closer to -17 with wind chill. On Sunday, a temperature of -5 C is expected together with sunshine.
