A successful season means individual accolades, and Arizona State Offensive Coordinator Marcus Arroyo has made an elite list.

Arroyo is one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which honors the nation’s top assistant coach. The others are Bryant Haines, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Indiana; Al Golden, defensive coordinator at Notre Dame; Tim Banks, defensive coordinator at Tennessee; and Pete Kwiatkowski, defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Texas.

Arroyo, 44, is in his first season in Tempe and has been instrumental in the development of freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt.

ASU averaged just 17.7 points and 321 yards per game last season and improved in his freshman year, calling the offense to 33 points and 423.2 yards per game.

The selection committee consists of former head coaches and broadcasters, with a committee representing the Football Writers Association of America narrowing the list of 15 semifinalists to five finalists. A winner will be chosen on February 13th. The 2023 winner was Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker. Past winners are not eligible to be nominated for the Broyles Award until the completion of three seasons.

The Sun Devils (11-2) prepares for a Jan. 1 showdown against either Texas or Clemson in the Peach Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff. ASU is coming off back-to-back 3-9 seasons with the current surge, which also resulted in head coach Kenny Dillingham being named the Big 12 Coach of the Year and a finalist for the 2024 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year honor.
