Cincinnati Reds acquire Catcher Jose Trevino in trade with New York Yankees

CINCINNATI — The Reds trade right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson to the Yankees in exchange for catcher Jose Trevino.

Trevino will serve as Cincinnati’s backup catcher behind Tyler Stephenson. He appeared in 73 games for New York last season, posting a .215/.288/.354 slash line with eight home runs and 28 RBI.

Trevino, 31, was an All-Star in 2022 and won an American League Gold Glove Award.

Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman were the first to report the trade. The Reds made it official Friday night.
