The party supply retailer informed workers of the impending closure on December 20, according to CNN.

Party City CEO Barry Litwin told company employees at a meeting that the company is “winding down” operations effective immediately, the news network reported.

Party City has three locations in the Rochester market: in the Market Square Plaza on Jefferson Road in Henrietta; in The Mall at Greece Ridge; and in Eastgate Square plaza, across from Eastview Mall.

Party City financial problems

Party City has been in financial trouble for years and first filed for bankruptcy in January 2023. That move came with a restructuring that led to store closings.

While the company went out of bankruptcy in September 2023CNN reported that Party City was unable to overcome its financial challenges.

It faces competition from online stores such as Amazon and seasonal pop-ups such as Spirit Halloween, which entered the Christmas market this year with its Spirit Christmas brand.
