SNL’s “Christmas Morning” sketch co-stars Chloe Fineman’s Dog

A thing about Christmas magic: It was created by exhausted parents, not adorable North Pole elves. In many cases, it is mothers who do much of the hall-covering and gift-buying; it’s weeks to months of work that’s largely forgotten the moment the last gift is unwrapped. Mothers also deserve a pile of thoughtful gifts – but which Saturday Night Live‘s “Christmas Morning” sketch perfectly illustrates that’s not always what happens.

That’s how you see

Clock Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30am/10:30c on NBC and Peacockstreaming next day on Peacock.

“Christmas Morning” stars Kristen Wiig as a mother who, along with her husband (Season 46 co-star Beck Bennett), are awakened on December 25 by their two excited children (Kyle Mooney and Chloe Fineman). The family launches into an upbeat holiday rap about the presents they’re about to unwrap.

“I have a nerve gun!” “I have a hat!” “I have an autographed baseball bat!” the family’s son, daughter and father announce and continue, “I have a telescope!” “I have a globe!” “I have a watch!”

“And I got a cape,” Wiig’s character intones.

But her family isn’t done exulting over their bounty: “I have Hulk Hands!” “I have a tie!” “I have a copy of The Catcher in the Rye!” “I have a drum kit! “I have a phone! I have a pen!”

“…And I got…a cape,” Wiig repeats as her family continues to rattle off what they’ve received.

As their list of gifts moves to another verse, Wiig’s character finds it harder to hide her disappointment (and who can blame her?). “I’m going to make us breakfast in my brand new robe that I love so much,” she raps. “It’s really soft and … oh, it’s on sale,” she says, noting a “40 percent off” tag.

Of course, mother’s stocking is completely empty, as it is she who fills them all – but father, brother and sister did not forget the most important member of the family: their dog, who has his own gift pile. Soon their adorable puppy also wearing a (small!) cape.

Chloe Fineman’s dog Peach was a last-minute addition to SNL’s “Christmas Morning” skit with Kristen Wiig

In an interview in December 2024 with PeopleChloe Fineman revealed that her Shiba Inu, Peach, plays the family dog in the sketch.

Wiig hosted the Christmas episode on December 19, 2020, and according to Fineman, the dog handler scheduled to work that day was sick with Covid-19. Enter Peach.

“So we snuck my dog in and he’s in that video and I love it because he’s so cute,” Fineman shared People. “He was doing dog plays, which was basically (when) you put peanut butter all over the set, and he just kind of licked things.”

“It was really a star ride for my dog, and he’s being held by Kristen Wiig,” added Fineman. “She’s like my hero. So it’s my favorite.”

Peach was a month-old puppy when he appeared on “Christmas Morning” — Fineman had announced his adoption in an Instagram post just weeks before.

“Peach is so cute he can’t stand it. (ps this is my new puppy),” she wrote post on November 25, 2020.
