Total snowfall: Storm delivers the biggest snowfall of the season so far

Well, it escalated quickly.

Our well-publicized Clipper delivered significant snow across much of the Upper Midwest on Thursday. Winter storm warnings valid until midnight. Gusts of wind and blowing snow will continue on Thursday evening.

The storm tracked a bit further south than forecast models indicated Wednesday, putting some of the heaviest snowfall south and west of the Twin Cities. Here are some selected ones total snowfall from late Thursday afternoon. It’s still snowing in some areas, so higher totals could come overnight.

Our snow system will gradually wind down Thursday night. The heaviest snow zone will be in southeastern Minnesota, where another 1 to 3 inches could fall. NOAA’s NAM 3 km model strings the snow down. The forecast model loop below runs between 18.00 on Thursday and 6:00 Friday.
