Three dead in Mahomet shooting; suspect identified

Three family members are dead after a shooting in Mahomet, Illinois Wednesday night.

According to the Champaign County Coroner, Janis L. Mason, 61, Caleb M. Mason, 23, and Sara E. Mason, 26, were shot and killed.

We’re told Janis and Caleb were both pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital’s Emergency Department, while Sara was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police say at 9:41 p.m., that officers were called to a residence in the 1100 block of Riverside Drive for a report that several people had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers found three people with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police say the suspect has been identified and located.

This death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, the Mahomet Police Department and the Illinois State Police.
