Mechanical problem leads to explosion at Geismar factory; no injuries reported

ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) – The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed an explosion occurred at a manufacturing facility near Geismar on Wednesday, December 18th.

According to the sheriff’s office, the explosion was caused by a mechanical problem at Westlake in Geismar.

Deputies said no injuries have been reported.

There is no fire, site impact or shelter in place at this time, officials confirmed.
