Saints sign former LSU star Clyde Edwards-Helaire | Saints

The New Orleans Saints are bringing back former LSU star Clyde Edwards-Helaire to bolster their backfield depth.

Edwards-Helaire is a Baton Rouge native who had spent his entire NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs up until this point. Kansas City waived him earlier this week after he amassed 2,610 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns there in four seasons.

The Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft after he rushed for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns for LSU’s National Championship team in 2019. He rushed for 803 yards as a rookie, but has seen his playing time drop in recent seasons.

Saints starter Alvin Kamara is currently dealing with a groin injury that sidelined him for most of the fourth quarter of last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders. Interim coach Darren Rizzi suggested Kamara’s injury is not serious.
