In case you missed itthere was some very sad West Ham news on Friday.

Half time: Bournemouth 0-0 West Ham

It’s all square at halftime.

45 min: Two minutes added here.

Great save from Fabianski!

44 min: Ouattara rejected by the Polish goalkeeper! Semenyo tries his luck with the left, the ball ricochets kindly to Ouattara, completely unmarked at the back post, but Fabianski flies across his target and makes a massive save with his legs!

42 min: Coufal blasts past Ouattara in front of the jubilant West Ham fans and another slip from Cook sparks the Hammers’ attack. Wan-Bissaka crosses from the left to the back post, Kerkez gets a low header on the ball and Soucek has a great chance as the ball falls to him… but cuts it wide!

Share

41 min: Kudus juggles the ball in midfield but Cook is having none of it and pats the West Ham man to the ground. Practice

Share

39 min: Bit of a break here. Both teams started well, but a few minutes have passed.

Share

37 min: Evanilson is caught on the ankle and retreats to the sideline. I think he’ll be okay though.

Share

35 minutes: The curse of MBMers strikes again. Just as I wrote my last post, Huijsen unnecessarily gives the ball away. Typical.

Share

33 min: What a player Huijsen is. He is only 19, and stands at 6ft5in and seems to be at ease on the ball. Born in the Netherlands, he is a Spain Under-21 international and has already played for Juventus and Roma.

Share

31 min: Mavropanos takes a nasty fall and looks in some discomfort but will be able to continue. I think he may have sprained his wrist, but the Greek soldiers on.

Share

29 min: Suns are getting close! The Spaniard wriggles free on the left side of Bournemouth’s box. He feints to hit with his left but checks inside and just curls a wide one with his right foot. Good effort.

Share

27 min: “Speaking of left-backs, ex-Arsenal (and West Ham) stalwart Nigel related to Bournemouth replacement Ben Winterburn?” asks Peter Oh.

He is not, if this photo is something to go for. Ben Winterburn is a midfielder, although he can play in defense and played on loan in non-league for Weymouth as recently as last season. So that’s quite the rise for the 20-year-old.

Share

25 minutes: Bowen gets a sneaky shot in for West Ham at the near post, Kepa is equal to it and collects at the second attempt.

Share

23 min: Soler picks up the first booking of the night and gives Semenyo a shove as the Bournemouth man threatened to break free on one of those crazy runs. A tactical error, I guess you’d call it.

Share

21 min: Brian Robson, via email, is first with the correct answer to my quiz question: it’s Fabianski.

Share

19 min: Considering Bournemouth’s recent run, three wins on the bounce in this game, this has been a really safe start from West Ham, who have been awarded another corner. Kepa hopefully claps at the delivery and is lucky to grab the ball at the second attempt inside his six-yard box.

West Ham hit the crossbar!

16 min: Kudus breaks a tackle and drives a beautiful line pass through the heart of the Bournemouth defense to Bowen. The Englishman doesn’t have the raw pace to break away from Huijsen, but instead he checks in on the edge of the area and bends a beautiful shot that hits the upright. Kepa was nowhere near that, a complete passenger.

Bournemouth hit the post!

13 min: The cherries go first, and therefore almost take the lead! Semenyo flicks Wan-Bissaka, Evanilson flicks hopefully onto Kluivert, who nods down to Semenyo…but his shot only hits the outside of the post! It felt like the ball only bounced once or twice in that whole stretch and West Ham – so usually reliable in the air – were almost undone.

10 minutes: West Ham, who have looked lively, move forward with Kudus playing on the left wing today. The Ghanaian switches the play to Paqueta, who dances into the Bournemouth box but has his shot blocked.

Share

8 min: Pop quiz: Jordan Pickford this season became the 20th goalkeeper to reach 300 Premier League appearances. Who is the only other active goalkeeper currently playing in the Premier League to achieve this feat.

Hint: this is a topical question.

Share

6 min: Paqueta gets his pocket picked in midfield by Kluivert and Bournemouth counter. Semenyo finds Christie on the edge of West Ham’s area, but the Scot’s shot is decisively blocked by Soler. Christie has an ace left foot, but West Ham did well to get something in the shot.

Share

4 min: Coufal, who has never scored for West Ham, takes over from Kerkez on the right. The Czech edges into the Bournemouth area but the angle is tight and the right-hander fluffs his lines and curls a shot high and wide.

Share

2 minutes: Kerkez, who has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United and Liverpool, makes one of those trademark slips and gets to the touchline, but it’s a good block from Mavropanos to clear the danger.

Peeeeeep! And we’re off on the south coast.

Share

The teams are out! Let’s go.

For what it’s worthWest Ham were lucky to beat Wolves last Monday.

This was xG…

West Ham 1.01
Wolves 1.63.

… and Wolves, whose defeat certainly contributed to the sacking of Gary O’Neil at the weekend, were also unlucky to be on the receiving end of a couple of flimsy refereeing decisions.

This looks like a very cryptic one (and slightly worrying for West Ham fans) pre-match message from Lucas Paquetá.

Eu não sou daqui
Pra casa voltarei
Ele vem me buscar e com ele eu iriei!

— Lucas Paquetá (@LucasPaqueta97) December 16, 2024

According to Google, this translates as:

I’m not from here
I’m returning home
He comes to get me, and with him I go!

However, it appears that these are just lyrics to a Brazilian gospel song. Fabrizio Romano, stand down.

Speaking of left backsthis interview with Milos Kerkez is worth your time.

Share

Both West Ham left backsEmerson and Cresswell, are out of the squad. Emerson is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season during last Monday’s 2-1 win over Wolves. Wan Bissaka will switch flanks tonight from right back, with Coufal playing in his normal position.

Preamble

Welcome to the Harry Redknapp Derby. The famous Dorset local, a former player and manager of both those teams, will no doubt have made the short trip to the Vitality Stadium this evening from his nearby residence in Sandbanks.

And why not? Vitality may be the smallest stadium in the Premier League and the second smallest in Premier League history behind Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road, but it certainly packs a decent punch under the lights. And with Bournemouth riding high in seventh and able to level with Manchester City in fifth, life is pretty sweet right now for the Cherries.

Kick-off: 20:00 GMT.
