Seahawks QB suffers knee injury vs. Packers

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith went to the locker room with an injury midway through the third quarter of Seattle’s “Sunday Night Football” showdown with the Green Bay Packers.

Smith got a low blow from a pair Packers defenders after throwing the ball away on a first-down pass attempt. After remaining on the field for a few extra moments, he received medical attention from Seattle’s training staff.

Although Smith walked off the field under his own power, he entered the blue medical tent shortly after reaching the sideline. A few minutes later, NBC’s broadcast showed the veteran quarterback going back to Seahawks‘ changing room.

The Seahawks listed Smith as questionable to return with a knee injury.

Backup quarterback Sam Howell is with Seattle, but Smith returned to the Seahawks’ sideline near the end of the third quarter.

The Seahawks declared Smith questionable to return for their “Sunday Night Football” game against the Packers with a knee injury.

The 34-year-old was injured when he was hit in the legs by a pair of Green Bay defenders. Smith had just thrown away a pass while under pressure when the Packers’ pass rush came home.

Smith went back to the locker room after a short trip to the blue medical tent. He returned to the Seahawks’ sideline a few minutes later, but NBC’s broadcast showed him grimacing and shaking his head.

Seattle’s quarterback room is down to two after Smith’s injury in the third quarter of “Sunday Night Football.” This is how it looks in week 15:

  • Geno Smith (questionable – knee)
  • Sam Howell
  • Jaren Hall (third emergency QB)

The Seahawks acquired Howell in a March trade with Washington’s commanders. Seattle received Howell, a fourth- and sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft in exchange for their third- and fifth-round picks. He lines up for Smith in Week 15 for his second appearance of the season and first since taking a snap in Week 7.

Hall, a former fifth-round pick by Minnesota Vikingssigned to the Seahawks’ practice squad prior to the season. Seattle elevated him to the active roster ahead of this week.
