When an impending volcanic eruption threatens to create a global catastrophe, a young scientist rushes to raise the alarm before it strikes. La Palma follows a group of geological researchers and a family of four who face a potential ecological crisis. Created by Martin Sundland (The quake), Lars Gudmestad (Headhunters), and Harald Rosenløw Eeg (The wave), La Palma was directed by Kasper Barfoed (The nurse). The series, written jointly by Gudmestad and Rosenløw Eeg, has Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Anders Baasmo Christiansen and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal in the lead roles.

What is happening in La Palma?

On the picturesque island of La Palma, a freak accident kills tourists aboard a glass-bottomed boat. Days later, Fredrik (Baasmo) and Jennifer (Berdal) and their children, Sara (Günther) and Tobias (Storm Lager), arrive for their annual vacation on the island and feel lucky when they get a major room upgrade. But their luck may soon run out. Geological researchers Marie (Loch Næss) and Haukur (Ólafsson) discover that an inevitable volcanic eruption could cause devastation not only on the island, but across continents. When a series of earthquakes hit La Palma, Marie and Haukur must convince their boss, Álvaro (de Juan), to take immediate action.

Is La Palma based on a true story?

No, it’s fictional – but the island of La Palma is real, and so is Cumbre Vieja, the most active volcano in the Canary Islands. It finally broke in 2021.
