Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions: first half open thread

Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions enter today as two of the best teams in the NFL. The Lions are literally the top dog in the league as they are 12-1 overall, first in scoring offense and second in scoring defense. The Bills enter the game at 10-3 overall and with a slim team at the AFC’s No. 2 seed.

The last time these two teams met was on Thanksgiving back in the 2022 NFL season. In that game, the Lions rallied to tie the game with 23 seconds left when a Michael Badgley 51-yard field goal with 23 seconds left tied the game at 25. However, the Bills moved 48 yards on three plays, aided by a 36-yarder. strike from Josh Allen to Stefon Diggs to set up a game-winning 45-yard field goal from Tyler Bass as time expired.

The Lions have played two close games in a row, in which they have sought victories over Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving (11-8pm) and over Green Bay Packers the following Thursday (34-31). Buffalo lost last week for the first time in more than two months, dropping a 44-42 contest against Los Angeles Rams. It was the seventh straight game that Buffalo scored at least 30 points and the first time they allowed over 40 points since the “13 Seconds” game in January 2022.

Will it be Josh Allen or Jared Goff quarterbacking his team to victory this weekend? Will Buffalo’s battered defense be able to slow down Detroit’s elite offense? Will Detroit’s battered defense be able to slow down Buffalo’s elite offense? Will Dan Campbell and Sean McDermott challenge each other to a knee-jerk, culture-shaping halftime wrestling match? We will have the answer to these questions and many more in about three hours.

Your first half is here, friends. Remember to be kind to each other. Remember to switch these comments to “elder” if you want the traditional game-thread experience. And most importantly, remember to enjoy the game wherever you watch it.

Go Bills!
